If the Maple Leafs are able to sign Mitch Marner and Alex Kerfoot to new contracts, then I believe they have a better team than they had the last 3 seasons.
They have upgraded the defence on the right side with Tyson Barrie and Cody Ceci and signed both Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson to cap friendly contracts.
They may have weakened their centre depth, trading away Naz Kadri but Kerfoot has the skillset to become their 3rd line centre.
Michael Hutchinson is a better option than Garret Sparks as Fred Andersen’s backup, so Andersen should be better rested entering the playoffs.
If everyone stays healthy, and Travis Dermott and Zach Hyman come back quickly from offseason surgeries, I think the Maple Leafs have enough talent to be considered serious Stanley Cup contenders
