There were popular styles that came and went and in retrospect, people laughed at them. Way back in the 1980’s, I had two which at the time were not considered jokes, and were seen as festive and fun. One was black, covered with appliquéd sequinned satin bows in bright colours. I wore it to various parties and got many compliments. The other I got as a gift from my MIL. It was a tunic sweater with a detailed fireplace knitted onto the front, complete with logs, flames, stockings. It was bright Christmas colours and it was worn for several holiday seasons. Not for one second was I embarrassed or thought they were ugly.
